English is a universal language that is crucial for education, work, and communication in today''s world, especially for high school students in Thailand. Having good English communication skills not only enhances educational opportunities but also builds confidence in entering a global society. However, most Thai students still struggle with using English for communication, particularly speaking skills. One common problem is the fear of making mistakes, which directly impacts their ability to express themselves and participate in English communication in the classroom. Students often worry about being teased by peers, being criticized by teachers, or making mistakes in vocabulary and grammar. These fears become barriers to expressing their opinions, answering questions, and engaging in conversation in English. Nakhon Phanom University Demonstration School (NPU Demonstration School) is an educational institution that prioritizes developing students'' English language skills to prepare them for higher education and international competition. Studying the relationship between fear of making mistakes and student participation in English speaking is crucial to help teachers understand the barriers and factors affecting student learning. Therefore, this research is essential because it will reveal students'' fear of making mistakes and its impact on their participation in English speaking in the classroom. The data can be used to improve teaching methods, the learning environment, and encourage students to use English more confidently. This will be beneficial to students, teachers and the overall development of English language teaching.
